Ski Adventure in Greece and Bulgaria (8 days)


Day 1: ARRIVAL IN THESSALONIKI
Arrival in Thessaloniki. Transfer to hotel. The ancient city of Thessaloniki was a royal foundation, named after the half-sister of Alexander the Great by her husband, in 316BC. Thessaloniki flourished under the Romans as the main staging post and administrative center on the Via Egnatia, the road linking Italy with Byzantium. Christianity took root after the visits of St. Paul and spread from there into the Balkans and southern Russia. As the second city of the Byzantine Empire, it survived 500 years of Turkish domination, and was finally reunited with Greece in 1912. Overnight in 5* hotel. 
 
Day 2: THESSALONIKI
Morning visit of downtown Thessaloniki. Visit the White Tower, a seaside medieval fortification and the medieval churches on Via Egnatia, all protected by UNESCO. Continue to the Arch of emperor Galerius, with its relief sculptures, built in 303, to commemorate the Roman triumphs over the Persians and the nearby domed rotunda, which have been intended by Galerius as his mausoleum. Your tour ends with a visit of the Castles of Thessaloniki for a bird’s eye view fo the city. Return to the hotel and rest of the day free at leisure for shopping, or watching the gorgeous sunset in a cafe on the seaside. Overnight in 5* hotel.
 
Day 3: THESSALONIKI  / OPTIONAL VISIT TO VERGINA 
Today you can enjoy a free day in Thessaloniki. Those who are interested in the architecture of the city, will find downtown filled with ontemporary, neoclassical and art deco buildings. The mall and restaurants  in the area of Pylaia, is the perfect holiday city break just outside the city. An optional tour to the Macedonian heartland can be operated today for those who wish to visit Vergina. The site identified as the first ancient capital of Macedon. Excavations have revealed the theatre in which Philip II was murdered, the royal palace with throne room, the sanctuary dedicated by Queen Eurydike, and the famous tombs with their exquisite paintings and sumptuous treasures. You can visit the huge royal tombs, including the tomb of Macedonian king Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. Overnight in 5* hotel.
 
Day 4: THESSALONIKI -  BANSKO SKI RESORT 
Early departure from Thessaloniki to Serres and continue to the town of Promachonas on the border with Bulgaria. After border formalities, continue towards the slopes of Pirin mountain and the ski resort town of Bansko. Transfer to your hotel. Check in and rest of the day free at leisure, to enjoy the mumerous cafes of Bansko. Overnight in 5* hotel.
 
Day 5: BANSKO
Free day in the ski resort town of Bansko. You can enjoy free transfer to the ski lifts and back to your hotel. Optional activities such as 8X8 ATV rides or hot pool spa treatments can complement your stay. Overnight in 5* hotel.
 
Day 6: BANSKO
Free day in the ski resort town of Bansko. Overnight in 5* hotel.
 
Day 7: BANSKO - SOFIA
Breakfast and morning free for some last minute shopping. Afternoon transfer to your 5* hotel in Sofia. Overnight in 5* hotel.
 
Day 8: TRANSFER TO AIRPORT
Breakfast and transfer to Sofia airport for your departure
