Safari and tropical beaches
This is the country hosting some of the largest national parks in Africa, rich in natural monuments and wildlife: A top destination for those who want to see in close distance, what they usually see in documentaries. During this tour we will get to know the big well-known national parks of Tanzania, crossing the vast savannahs of the North and observe the unique wildlife, living up close and capturing images that will be remembered forever. A big advantage is our stay in lodges inside or near the parks. Another strong point is the relatively short duration, which makes the trip more accessible both in terms of time and money. We will continue to exotic Zanzibar, with its magnificent old Stone Town which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Here we will live unique moments in a city with the most distinctive and imposing atmosphere of the entire Indian Ocean. The tropical beaches of the island are surrounded by dense vegetation, have blue-green crystal waters and white sand: the perfect place environment for hours of relaxation and enjoyment.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN ARUSHA
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your driver, who will transfer you to your hotel in Arusha.. The rest of the day is at your leisure to relax from your travel. We recommend to enjoy a guided walk through a natural trail around lake Duluti (please ask your lodge upon your arrival to organize this activity).
Dinner and overnight in Arusha.
DAY 2: ARUSHA & SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
Early wake up call. Your driver-guide will pick you up this morning from your lodge (after your breakfast) and, together, you will proceed to our exciting destination being a name familiar to everyone – the Great Serengeti. In the Maasai language, “serenget” means “endless plain”. The park stretches for over 15,000 square kilometers. Serengeti National Park is quite simply the most magnificent wildlife sanctuary in the World— unparalleled in natural beauty and wilderness. From vast, open plains casting idyllic, golden sunsets, to steamy riverbanks and towers of granite boulders, the Serengeti throbs with life in the endless rhythms of the animals. We head to the central park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. We arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive exploring the wildlife of Serengeti. With its wide-open spaces, bright blue skies and creature-filled landscape, over the next two days we will discover why the fabled Serengeti typifies the dream of “Old Africa.” Large prides of lions laze in the long grasses; plentiful families of elephants feed on acacia bark and trumpet to each other across the plains, while giraffes, gazelles, monkeys, eland and the whole range of African wildlife present themselves in awe-inspiring numbers. At sunset we will proceed to our tented camp in the heart of this famous Seronera Valley. Arrival for dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 3: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
Waking up in the Serengeti is something really special. Sights, sounds and smells of Africa are all around us, and ahead is a full day of adventure in the world’s most famous national park. After breakfast, we will have a full day game drive in various areas of the park. The Serengeti eco-system is home to the “big five” (lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard, rhinoceros). The other main species include giraffe, zebra, antelope, Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelle, hippopotamus, crocodiles and in season the spectacular migration of the wildebeest. Everywhere there are animals, vervet monkeys, olive baboons and a great variety of birds—with a total of 505 species being documented so far. But look closely and you will thrill to the huge jungle cats—lion, leopard and cheetah—just watching the world go by. And go by it does. Animals in the trees, on the wing, camouflaged in the bush, in rivers and in stream. The adventure of a lifetime! We will have a break for picnic lunch in the bush. At sunset, we return to our tented camp. Dinner will be served at your camp followed by a good night rest.
DAY 4: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK & NGORONGORO CRATER
At sunrise we depart Serengeti and proceed to Ngorongoro Conservation Area enjoying the unwinding scenery along the way. Upon arrival and after the gate procedures, we drive down to the crater floor for wildlife game. With its abundant water, excellent grazing and natural protection from the densely vegetated crater walls, the crater provides shelter to over 25,000 animals, including the endangered Black Rhinoceros. The crater and surrounding highlands are one of Africa’s most beautiful regions, with volcanic craters forming stunning backdrops to some of the richest grazing grounds in Africa. With 600 meter high walls and a rich volcanic floor covering 260km2, the crater is the world’s largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera, a crater formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago. It is estimated that the height of the original volcano ranged between 4.500 to 5.800 meters high. Lunch will be taken in a picnic site inside the crater. In the afternoon we ascend the crater and drive to our lodge on the rim of Ngorongoro crater. Leisure time enjoying the amazing view towards the crater floor, dinner and overnight.
DAY 5: NGORONGORO CRATER, MAASAI VILLAGE & FLIGHT TO ZANZIBAR
After an early breakfast, we will step into the rhythm of Maasai daily life, with a visit to a traditional Maasai Boma (dwelling). Here, you will have a chance meet the Elders and Morans (warriors), with full explanations into the status and ranking within the family age groups. You will also meet the Maasai women and children and participate in some typical activities. After our time with the Maasai, we will drive to Arusha airport to connect with an afternoon flight to Zanzibar. Upon arrival, our driver will pick you from the airport to transfer you to your beach hotel. Evening at leisure, dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 6: STONE TOWN
After breakfast your driver will pick you from your hotel to transfer you to Stone Town where you will meet with our specialized guide who will escort you on a guided tour through the historical sites of Stone Town. Stone town and its buildings are full of history and stories of the old times of Zanzibar, when Sultans and Arabs, the Europeans and Zanzibaris wrote the history of this beautiful island. Accompanied by our experienced local guide you will visit the House of Wonders, the Palace of the Sultans, the Slave markets, the old Arabic fort, the Tippu Tip house, Fredy Mercury’s house. You may continue with a leisure walk through the narrow streets of the old town where you will see the famous Zanzibar carved doors and find little souvenir handmade gems in its small local shops.
Meals free to select any restaurant of your preference in town. In the afternoon we will brive back to our beach hotel. Rest of the day free at leisure to enjoy the beach. Dinner and overnight.
