The trek to Everest Base Camp is the greatest mountain trek in the world. Trekking through spectacular mountain scenery, we will become familiar with the big Himalayan giants: Everest, Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, Lobuche Peak, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Pumori. During our Everest Base Camp trek we take the time to visit villages such as Thame and Pangboche and we schedule plenty of rest days to aid in acclimatization and to provide the opportunities to explore and spend more time with our Sherpa friends. The Everest Base Camp trek, a very well known mountain trek, starts at the upper Phakding and follows the Dudh Kosi valley which climbs up to the Sherpa capital of Namche, a bustling bazaar that’s a junction for trekkers, the local Sherpa and expeditions en route to the mighty Mt. Everest. All along this part of the trail, villages are interspersed with magnificent forests of rhododendron, magnolia and giant firs. In both the early autumn and late spring, the flowers on this portion of the trek make it the kind of walk you will remember for a long time.
Our spectacular trek includes an ascend to Kala Pattar at 18,221 ft from where we can get some awesome views of the Himalayan giants which literally numb your senses with breathless admiration that beholds the eye; and makes up for the lung-bursting climb that took you up there. You soon realize it was absolutely worth it. We then trek down to Everest Base Camp at the foot of the Khumbu ice fall before finally making our way back down to Lukhla.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU

DAY 2: KATHMANDU CITY TOUR

DAY 3: FLIGHT TO LUKHLA (2.865m) & TREK TO MONJO
In the morning we take a spectacular 40 min. flight from Kathmandu to Lukhla, perched at 9,400ft or 2.865m in the Khumbu region of Eastern Nepal. The flight is bound to be one of the most exhilarating you will ever take. Much of it is only a few thousand feet above ground and the views of the terraced landscape and river valleys below, as well as the closeness of some of the world’s highest mountains make it a truly memorable experience. In Lukhla the porters load up and we proceed to Mojo (8,700ft or 2.650m), an easy afternoon’s scenic walk. Overnight in Monjo, at local guesthouse.
DAY 4: MONJO – NAMCHE
Today there is a long, steep climb up to the town of Namche Bazaar (11,300ft or 3.440m), the main admistrative and trading centre for the Khumbu region. The climb is, however, made easier by the distractions offered by the magnificent forests of blue pine, fir, juniper and rhododendron as well as our first views of Mt. Everest. Overnight in Namche, at local guesthouse.
DAY 5: NAMCHE
Acclimatization day at Namche. This day can be spent relaxing at the guesthouse, exploring the tiny shops in the bazaar and the local museum with exhibits of the flora, fauna, and history of the Everest region. You can also participate in an optional hike to some of the sherpa villages nearby, such as Kunde and Khumjung, or take a more strenuous walk to Thame. Overnight in Namche, at local guesthouse.
DAY 6: NAMCHE – TENGBOCHE
Trek to Tengboche, along a trail with spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Kantaiga, and Ama Dablam. Tengboche (12,700ft or 3.875m), is one of the most impressive locations on earth and site of the region’s most important Buddhist monastery. We will have the opportunity to explore the monastery and see monks at prayer. Overnight in Tengboche, at local guesthouse.
DAY 7: TENGBOCHE – PHERICHE
The first part of the day is spent walking through lush rhododendron and pine forests. We eventually emerge above the tree-line and continue for the rest of the day up the glacial valley until we reach Pheriche at 13,950ft or 4.251m Overnight in Pheriche, at local guesthouse.
DAY 8: PHERICHE
This is the second of our important acclimatization days, and it can be spent in Pheriche relaxing by the village stream enjoying scenic views of Ama Dablam, or on an excursion up the Imja Khola valley to Chukkung to get a marvellous view of the surrounding mountains, especially Lhotse’s massive south wall. Overnight in Pheriche, at local guesthouse.
DAY 9: PHERICHE – LOBUCHE
We cautiously continue up the valley from Pheriche to Lobuche (16,175ft or 4,930m), which is really just a few huts at the foot of giant Lobuche peak. Again the views are spectacular and the sunset on Nuptse, towering directly ahead of Lobuche is especially impressive. Overnight in Lobuche, at local guesthouse.
DAY 10: LOBUCHE – GORAKSHEP
This will be one of the most difficult yet rewarding days of the trek. Most of this day is spent climbing Mt. Kala Patar, a small peak (by Himalayan standards) at 18,200ft or 5.545m. The ascent is demanding but the climber gets the most magnificent mountain panorama possible: Everest, the highest point on the planet at 29,028ft or 8,848m, towers directly ahead and on all sides loom the other giants, Nuptse, Pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse and countless others. If possible we can stay and watch the awe-inspiring sunset on Everest and its neighbours. We make a quick descent to Gorak Shep, a tiny hamlet at 16,950ft or 5.170m, where we stay the night. Overnight in Gorak Shep, at local guesthouse.
DAY 11: GORAKSHEP – EVEREST BASE CAMP
On this day we walk along the Khumbu Glacier and up to Everest Base Camp at (17,600ft or 5.380m) , the closest you can get to Mt. Everest without mountaineering equipment. There will likely be a team there about to attempt the summit. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp is spectacular. We return down to Gorak Shep for the night. Overnight in Gorak Shep, at local guesthouse.
DAY 12: GORAKSHEP – DINGBOCHE
From Gorakshep we start our descend. Passing by Lobuche, we continue to Dingboche(14,468ft or 4.410m). Overnight in Dingboche, at local guesthouse.
DAY 13: DINGBOCHE – DEBOCHE
From Dingboche we take the route down to Deboche. Enroute we see some of the area’s most beautifully carved mani (prayer) stones. Overnight in Deboche, at local guesthouse.
DAY 14: DEBOCHE – NAMCHE
Descent via Tengboche to Namche. Overnight in Namche, at local guesthouse.
DAY 15: NAMCHE – LUKHLA
An easy day’s walk brings us back to Lukhla for our final night in the Khumbu Valley. Although it may have looked primitive the first time through, Lukhla will seem quite modern after the isolated villages up the valley. Overnight in Lukhla, at local guesthouse.
DAY 16: FLIGHT TO KATHMANDU
An early morning flight takes us back to Kathmandu, and gives us a last view of the mountains we have just spent two weeks exploring. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu 3* hotel
DAY 17: KATHMANDU FREE AT LEISURE
Day free at leisure for shopping and sightseeing. This day is free in case that the flight from Lukhla is canceled. Overnight in Kathmandu 3* hotel
